Our verdict. Amsterdam suits a family that wants an international school and a boat in a European capital. The International School of Amsterdam charges €32,755 for Grade 12, and a 20 m berth at Amsterdam Marina costs €6,900 a year, the lowest in the Atlas. The weak point is tax: a 49.5% top rate on worldwide income, and a flat 36% on the deemed return from savings and investments under Box 3. Asking rents in the Centrum run to about €32 per square metre a month. Compared with Munich, the school costs about €4,100 more a year and the top tax rate is about two points higher.
