The routes to living in Ireland.
Our verdict. Ireland suits a retiree with a steady income rather than an investor: its investor programme closed on 15 February 2023. The Stamp 0 permission for persons of independent means asks for an income of €50,000 a year, access to a lump sum for major costs such as buying a home, and private health insurance; no work is allowed. The Irish Immigration Service averages about four months. The drawback is that the route sets no path to permanent residence or citizenship, and non-domiciled residents pay tax on foreign income only when it is brought into Ireland. Next to Spain's non-lucrative visa, the income bar is higher, but Ireland publishes no minimum stay.
